55th Anniversary

Canadian Slovenian Cultural Society Inc.

Celebrates 55 Years

Saturday, September 30, 2006

The Slovenian Community gathered together in Winnipeg on Saturday, September 30, 2006 to celebrate 55 years of the Canadian Slovenian Cultural Society Inc. On October 7, 1951, 18 men gathered together on this day to organize a Slovenian Club known today as the “CSCS”.

The evening began with our Master of Ceremonies, Stan Majowski, welcoming everyone and calling upon Kristina Majowski, Vice-President of the Women’s Catholic League to say grace. At this time, dinner was served.

To celebrate our 55th Anniversary, we were very fortunate to have many special guests joining our community. His Excellency Tomaž Kunstelj, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenija; Mr. Doug Martindale, MLA for Burrows and his wife Carol; longtime supporters of the Slovenian Community, Cropo Funeral Homes, Mr. Mike Sworyk and wife Connie.

The President of the CSCS, Ms. Elizabeth Blazanovic in her address welcomed everyone and shared how wonderful of a community that we are. Many thanks were given to the Board of Directors for all their support and hard work and to the many volunteers to make this evening a success. To commemorate our “Founding Fathers” a plaque was presented to the community with all the names of the original men who began the organization in 1951. The plaque was to be placed in our church hall – Our Lady of Lourdes for everyone to enjoy.

Shortly, after the speeches Ansambel Brajda from Ontario provided us “Live Entertainment” throughout the rest of the evening. With their traditional costumes and polka music, in no time the dance floor was full.

Unfortunately, the night had to end at 1:00am. But we can all look back and remind ourselves of the accomplishments, support and care that we have for one another that truly makes our organization a success.
