The Zvon (Bell) Singers began their history in 1972 when a group of male singers who were a part of the Slovenian Mixed Choir decided to form their own quintet. Zvon's repertoire is made up of both Slovenian folk songs (narodne pesme) and the music of the legendary Slovenian folk music group - Ansambel Lojze Slak. These are the songs that all Slovenians know well and are to this day, the dearest in the hearts and memories of the Zvon Singers. To view a sample of the songs performed please click here.

Zvon has had the honor of performing the music of Slovenia at many different celebrations and functions across Manitoba. The main showcase of their talents is the Folklorama festival held each year in Winnipeg. Zvon has had the opportunity to perform at the festival's Opening Ceremonies as well as other promotional events.

In addition to Folklorama, Zvon has been a part of some very special occasions:

* Performing for the Winnipeg visit of Toronto's Archbishop - Eminence Aloysius Cardinal Ambrožičc (1999). Zvon composed and performed a new song especially for this occasion.

* All Slav's Day Festival at the Ironworld Centre in Chisholm, Minnesota (1999). Zvon thoroughly enjoyed their time in Minnesota and hope to make a return visit to the festival in the near future!

* Performances for the Slovenian communities in Edmonton and Calgary (1981).

Currently, look for Zvon to be performing at the Slovenija Pavilion at this year's Folklorama 2006 festival. The exact appearance dates are still to be determined so please visit this page again for updates!
