Triglav

Slovenian Dance Ensemble “Triglav”

The Slovenian Dance Ensemble Triglav is based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and is sponsored by the Canadian Slovenian Cultural Society (CSCS). It has been in existence since 1972, and is a mainstay of our community in Winnipeg.

Triglav performs dances and songs from four distinct regions of Slovenia. To view a sample of the dances performed please here.

Gorenjska - It is the most commonly known and recognizable, as it the official ethnic dress of Slovenia. Located in central Slovenia, Gorenjska extends north from the capital of Ljubljana to the Austrian border and the music is traditional Slovenian.

Prekmurje - the eastern most part of Slovenia, bordering Hungary. The music from this region is definitely different from Gorenjska, in that this region’s music and dance has a definite Hungarian influence.

Prekmurje

Stajerska - located East of the capital, stretching to Prekmurje. The music is more traditional in this region and the alpine influence is more recognizable.

Bela Krajina - located in the south-central part of Slovenia, bordering Croatia. The music and dance from this region are very lively. The music does not feature the trumpets and clarinets, as does most other Slovenian regions, but you will hear the introduction of the tamburica into the music of Bela Krajina
