Parish Visit by the Most Reverend
James Weisgerber
Archbishop of Winnipeg
On Sunday, March 11, 2001, the Slovenian community in Winnipeg welcomed His Grace, Archbishop James Weisgerber to Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
This was the first visit by His Grace to our community, and he celebrated Sunday Mass with us. The Archbishop spoke highly of keeping ethnic churches alive and strong within Winnipeg and that news is very heartening to us.
During Mass, His Grace was welcomed in Slovenian by Albert Casar, Past Vice President Canadian Slovenian Cultural Society, and was presented flowers by Sabrina Simonic and Matthew Stubler, both dressed in traditional Gorenjska costumes.
After Mass, the Archbishop joined the community in the church hall, and was the special host of a wonderful lunch, hosted by the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. We all ate, drank Slovenian wine and enjoyed fellowship with our shepherd.
A big "Thank You" to Maureen Gimpelj, President of the CWL, and the ladies of the CWL for preparing the lunch.
All good time was had by all attendees.
